One Year

As of Tuesday, I have been employed for one full year! It’s amazing how fast time flies…in fact, I was talking to Aaryn the other night, and we both agreed that it seemed like forever since we graduated. Of course it was only 15 months ago, but so much has happened and so much has changed. Here’s the quick recap:
1) Champion Forest has a sweet website. And so does the student ministry. And soon the young married department will have another great website.
It’s interesting to note that the other major churches in Houston (Houston’s First, Second, and Fellowhip of the Woodlands have undergone serious revisions in the past year. Of course I’m biased, but I feel we have outdone them all… Of course, it’s not a competition, but I think we have created a better site; and at least we have the most consistently readable and accessible site. I have put a lot of time into the details, and it shows.
Moving on.
2) My coding skills are vastly improved. I can create a working website in less than half the time I could in the past.
3) I stick my foot in my mouth an average of three times a day–it’s down from five a day.
4) Bush was reelected.
5) A tsunami devastated southeast Asia.
6) The Iraqi War has gotten worse (at least more difficult)…and people are clamoring for an “Exit Strategy” (how about we will leave after the fighting is done), and compare it to Vietnam.
7) I got a Tivo wanna-be. It was one of the best purchases ever! 8) My apartment has filled up–I am out of space.
9) I signed a lease for yet another year.
10) The church has lost three pastors (including the senior pastor), four secretaries and one finance person. (Of course they have been replaced as necessary).
11) My sister gets married.
12) Katrina ravages New Orleans. Refugees flock to Houston and beyond. Houses are destroyed. Good people have lost everything they own, including their jobs.
But sadly, people are exposed for their sinful and greedy ways…stealing and looting; raping and pillaging their neighbors. Shooting at rescuers, complaining about rescuers, asking, “when are they going to come and save me?”
And so that’s the year.
