Memorial Day Weekend
This weekend was a much needed four day weekend for myself. I have every other Friday off at work, so that is awesome, and my normal long weekend was extended an extra day. That makes me very very happy.
Looking back on the weekend, I can’t exactly say that I did anything significant; I hung out w/ Vern, who is back in town for a few weeks. And I also hung out with the regulars at Champion Forest.
And sadly enough, I was reminded of my poor physical fitness this afternoon. In the sultry Houston air, I felt like I was gasping for air after only minutes. And since I’m starting the basketball league tomorrow night, I should be in for a tiring few days…
All told, it will be great for me to excercise on a regular basis this summer.
At any rate, the weekend was great, and like always, I wish it were a bit longer. Not that I don’t enjoy work–but it’s that I enjoy weekends better.
And lastly, cheers to all those who served in the military…
Ugh
I was watching the season finale of Lost last night (via the DVR). The show is fairly good, and I’ve enjoyed watching it this year. I’ve always been a fiend for deserted island stories (I love Robinson Crusoe, the Swiss Family Robinson, Giligan’s Island, The Cay, etc…), so this fits in nicely with that.
Anyways, about thirty minutes into the show, I get snow and fuzz and this hideous sound. Yea, my cable went out during the Lost finale…
So, I start fast-forwarding…minutes past. More minutes past… I figure my cable was out for 45 minutes; it stinks. I hereby dub Time Warner Cable to be “the suck” because my internet and/or cable is always messed up.
Hmph.
Editors Note: ABC replayed lost on Saturday which the DVR astutely captured. I am, as I type, finishing the last parts of the season finale!
Bye-Bye Mavs
As a huge Mavs fan, I was saddened to see that we choked and lost game six. Unfortunately, I was out of town and didn’t get a chance to watch it, but I did see that we lost in OT (I read all the recaps and analysis earlier this afternoon). I’m also glad that I’ll have more time again (I won’t watch as many playoff games…)
Mark Cuban wrote about the season, describing everything the team went through–and honestly we did really well. We lost Steve Nash, Antawn Jameson, and Antoine Walker, and we won more games this year. Sure it sucks to lose, but I’m glad that Nash is still in the playoffs, and for that matter, I’m glad that he won the MVP. If you watched what he did against us (games 4-6), you can’t help but be amazed.
So cheers for a great season–next year should be even better. (Crosses fingers).
Testing the Welcome
As many of you know, I work for a small (joking) church in Houston — Champion Forest. This spring we revamped the main website, and recently, we redesigned the student site, In Your Element. (In both cases, we actually means “I”) The redeisgns went really well, and I think most people are very happy with the results. I have only received a handful of complaints–and most are prefaced with “as an experienced internet user I feel….” It always makes me laugh that people feel they must add comments like that to be heard.
Today, I revamped the “New to CFBC” section by adding a Q & A instead of the bulleted list. I added questions like “What to Expect,” “Where Should I Go,” etc… The idea is that I’m trying to figure out which questions people really ask and give them the information in a manner that is easy to digest and is accessible from only one location. I also included links to find more information about each of the various questions, but I still want to provide one place to get the answers to the most important questions. Also, I am testing a new “highlighting” format (I saw it on another site early…but I can’t remember which one it was.) that should further help people to glean only the most important information on their first glance.
That being said–what do you think about it? Are there any questions I’m forgetting? And most importantly, does it make sense?
Send me an email (amaddox AT gmail.com) or comment on this post. I appreciate all comments, even the ones that may “critique” my work.
At any rate, I try to constantly reevaluate the usefulness of our website, even as we are looking at purchasing a stats program to help us determine what is useful on the website and what people are actually viewing.
Graduation Plus One
Today, marks the one year anniversary of my graduation from college. It almost seems surreal that the first year has passed, and in spite of sounding like a bad cliche, it has gone by so very fast.
Finally!
After six months, eight designs, two hosts, three blogging software systems, and numerous promises to get this thing online, the site is finally online.
